Sound Test
For this demonstration, I’m using my Audix Fusion Series microphones with no EQ, compression, reverb, or processing of any kind. I start with a close up of the ride cymbal, playing around the cymbal, on the bow, bell, and edge, demonstrating the stick definition, ping, and wash. I then play the whole kit in a few different styles.
Final Thoughts
I rarely used the bell of a ride cymbal, until I started playing country, especially southern rock. Now that I use it, I’m glad I have a ride cymbal with a beautiful, pingy bell. It’s bright, and it cuts so well in the mix. For smaller gigs, no microphone is needed, the audience will have no issues hearing it. If you intend on crashing this, it does have a long sustain. Much longer than the other Zildjian A Custom cymbals I use.
