Bright and crispy with a brilliant finish, the Zildjian A Custom Mastersound Hi Hats feature crimped edges on the bottom cymbal to quickly vent trapped air that gives it an even more crisp “chick” sound compared to the regular A Custom hi hats.

Sound Test
For this demonstration, I’m using my Audix Fusion Series microphones with no EQ, compression, reverb, or processing of any kind. I start with a close up of the Mastersound hi hats, playing them closed tightly to washy, as well as the foot operated “chick”. I then play the whole kit in a few different styles.
Final Thoughts
I’ve played rock, metal, funk, punk, country, and these hats have rocked them all. They’re bright, crisp, and clean. The crimped design on the bottom hat allows me to get the quick “chick” for tight time keeping. I like to get washy, especially when I play open handed, and these give me the right amount of wash, which is why I opted for the 13″ instead of the 14″ or 15″.
