Zildjian A Custom Rezo Crash Cymbal - 19"

By Joseph "Stix" Davis - 8/11/20

I was looking for a unique cymbal to complete my cymbal lineup. I wanted something bigger and heavier to put on the left side. I had never seen or heard the Rezo crash before, so I just bought it on a whim. The Rezo series was already out of production when I discovered it, but I was able to find one in like new condition on eBay.  The Rezo is a hybrid of sorts, featuring alternating bands of spiral and full lathing, and utilizing both traditional and brilliant finishes.

Sound Test

For this demonstration, I'm using my Audix Fusion Series microphones with no EQ, compression, reverb, or processing of any kind. I start with a close up of the crash cymbal. I then play the whole kit in a few different styles.

Final Thoughts

I took a bit of a gamble with this cymbal, but I am happy I did. It is now my biggest crash cymbal, and will be on the left side of my kit, where my (live kit) 18" floor tom is and where my (studio kit) 18" floor tom will eventually be. It is a bit darker than my 18" crash, which is on the right side of my kit. The alternating lathing techniques adds to the unique look and sound, with a bright sound and aggressive overtones.
