Home Studio Part 2: Foam

By Joseph "Stix" Davis - 3/16/20

With the foundation laid down, the next step is foam. I placed an order with Foam Factory.

2" pyramid foam for the walls

2 1/2" eggcrate foam for the ceiling

The pyramid foam pieces are 24" x 48". I went with the bigger size so I wouldn't have to hang up as many, but I really like the way it looks, so that's a win. The eggcrate foam piece was 72" x 80", but it was a hassle to hang up as is, so I cut it into several smaller panels. It doesn't look that great. Fortunately no one will see it. All foam was attached to the wall/ceiling with 3/4" screws. I tried pins, nails with washers, but didn't work. I'm surprised screws did.

The floor was already carpeted, but I put a black rug down for aesthetics. I cut a hole for the vent cover, but ended up closing the vent anyway after consulting with an HVAC tech. I hung up a simple black curtain to cover the window.

Now I can set up my drums, microphones, lights, and cameras.

Cheers!
